Today we announced that Spontey has officially changed its name to RealSilicon. Under our new brand, we will continue to build upon Spontey’s established 12-year history of providing analog and custom design solutions for processors and high end SOC ICs.
Why did we pick this moment in time for a rebrand? The semiconductor industry is coming back with a bang, driven by macro trends like big data, machine learning, connected cars, and IoT devices. The growth of cloud computing is fueling the demand for high speed chips, while explosive demand for mobile devices is simultaneously accelerating the need for low power chips. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also causing widespread and deeply disruptive change in computing requirements for all types of equipment and gadgets, requiring a shift from traditional algorithms to pattern-based computing. This shift will have deep repercussions when it comes to processing speed. In order to handle AI, computing devices will need to be faster, more adaptive, and simultaneously more efficient in their power consumption.
At the center of the neural network, the data centers that power cloud computing will continuously require more capacity, more speed, and better power efficiency. At the edge of the network, IoT devices, especially those that are battery operated, will be need to become more adaptive to operate quickly in burst mode, with more power efficiency than ever before. Software alone is not enough to solve these challenges – hardware is also undergoing tremendous change and innovation.
